Publication Ethics

The ethical standards JABEM expects of authors, reviewers and editors.

JABEM follows the Core Practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expects authors, reviewers and editors to do the same.

Authors

  • Submit only original work and cite others' work properly. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is not accepted.
  • Do not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at a time.
  • List as authors everyone, and only those, who made a substantial contribution.
  • Declare all funding and any competing interests.
  • Research involving people must have ethics approval and informed consent where required.
  • Data must be genuine. Fabrication or manipulation of data is misconduct.
  • Disclose any use of generative AI tools. AI cannot be an author, and authors remain responsible for all content.

Reviewers

  • Keep manuscripts confidential and do not use unpublished findings.
  • Decline if you have a conflict of interest.
  • Do not upload manuscripts into public AI tools.

Editors

  • Judge manuscripts on their merit only, regardless of the authors' identity, institution or nationality.
  • Keep editorial decisions independent of fees and payment.
  • Handle conflicts of interest by passing the manuscript to another editor.

Corrections and retractions

Errors in published articles are corrected through a published correction notice linked to the article. Articles found to be seriously flawed or the result of misconduct are retracted, with a retraction notice; the original remains online, clearly marked.

Complaints and appeals

Authors may appeal a decision once, in writing, to the Editor-in-Chief, explaining why they believe it was mistaken. Complaints about the journal's conduct can be sent to editor@jabem.org and will be answered within 30 days.
